How do you use Bose Companion Speakers 5 with my Sony Bravia KDL-37XBR6?

Hey, i was wondering if it was possible for me connect my speakers to my TV. I've already tried with an 1/8'' to 1/8'' Stereo Cable. (2 headphone plugs. one on each side) One side goes to the Head phone jack of the TV, and the other into the Control Pod that came with the Bose speakers, that didn't work however. If possible write your answer like a step by step guide as I'm not the most technologically adept guy. btw I'm willing to spend some more money on additional hardware. Thanks all!
