Hard under skin calluses on both hands (genetics's) ideas?

The palm of both hands along the top two creases in line with the ring finger I have under the skin hard areas. I was told by a doc. it is genetic and that it originated from some region of the world. I did not pay any attiontion to it at the time but now am wondering? Any ideas?
