Mario Party 8...errr!?

I have now beat the star battle game 3 times all with different characters. I have unlocked blooper and now want to unlock the turtle (dont know the name). I was told that if i beat the star battle for the second time with a different character, then the other character will be unlocked! Does anyone know what i am doing wrong or what exactly i need to do to unlock this last character?
