Why do women put up with guys who are jerks?

I like this girl, but she is with a controlling a**hole! she really deserves better than him. He tells her what she can and can not do, when and where, and everything else, including her friends and family. I'm not even legally allowed to say how much i hate this guy and wish he would keel over.!
